Carl & Robbie Hammond, Growers, Ohio

Carl and Robbie Hammond of Lower Gwynn Farm rotate between corn and soybeans on their 2,750-acre farm. After a wet spring and summer followed by dry conditions the next year, the Hammond’s decided to try ESN rather than relying on certain weather conditions. In a typical year they lose 25-30 per cent of their nitrogen, meaning they have to over apply by the same amount or lose yield on their corn. Moving to ESN means having nitrogen available to crops all season long, which is the strategy behind the Hammonds using ESN instead of side dressing.
