Dr. Heiniger, Researcher, North Carolina

Dr. Heiniger is a Cropping Systems Specialist at North Carolina State University in the Vernon James Research and Extension Centre. He started working with ESN ten years ago when it first became available and has been able to use it on several different crops, including wheat, corn, cotton and soybeans. He says controlled release nitrogen has a real advantage when used on wheat because it can be applied it in the fall and will remained sealed throughout the winter until warmer temperatures release the nitrogen in the spring. Dr. Heiniger highlights yield increases as high as 12 bushels/acre in both wheat and corn and a 65-pound lint increase on irrigated cotton and 30-40 pound lint increase on dry land cotton.
