Mike Howell, Agronomist, Mississippi

Tech Service Agronomist Mike Howell is currently conducting his third year of research on ESN and soybeans at the Delta Research and Extension Center in Mississippi, where the past two years have shown a three to six bushel yield increase when ESN was applied. This year is particularly challenging for growers in the Southeast and Midwest U.S. due to heavy spring rainfall and delayed planting, but ESN has been doing well and Howell hasn’t seen any Nitrogen loss due to leaching or denitrification. He also shares that he hasn’t experienced any crop safety issues with ESN and can top dress it without experiencing any crop burn. A lot of growers in the Delta area are trying ESN for the first time this year and are happy that they don’t have to do multiple applications.
