ESN Is the Smart Nitrogen for Top Cotton Yields and Profits

University of Missouri research shows the value and flexibility of ESN Smart Nitrogen in cotton production in the Northern Delta. One ESN or ESN-blend application out-yielded conventional split urea applications. Figures below show yield and profit gains observed in this Southeast

  • Pre-plant or side-dress ESN increased lint yields by more than 100 lbs/acre over split application of urea.
  • At $0.80/lb for cotton, profit increase from ESN or ESN blend is $82 to $186/acre more than split urea application.
  • At a cotton price of $1.20/lb, profit is even greater.
  • Profit increases equate to a return on investment of 4x to more than 10x over the increased cost for ESN.

ESN Is the Smart Nitrogen for Top Cotton Yields and ProfitsSplit applied urea consisted of 60 lbs N/acre plus 60 lbs N/acre top-dressed three weeks after planting. ESN blend consists of 30 lbs N/acre as urea with 60 lbs N/acre as ESN. Top-dressed ESN and the ESN blend were applied three weeks after planting. Profit increase is shown for cotton prices of $0.80 and $1.20/lb and is calculated using a $0.20/lb N premium for ESN over urea at $420/ton and $5/acre application cost.
