Urea treatment consisted of 20 lbs N/acre with the seed plus 40 lbs N/acre broadcast after planting, ESN/Urea blend was 40 lbs/acre with seed and 20 lbs Urea Broadcast after seeding. The ESN treatment was 60 lbs with the seed. Profit increase is shown for wheat prices of $5.00/bu and $7.00/bu and is calculated using a $180/mt N premium for ESN over urea. No cost as attributed to the broadcasting and no value given for the increase in protein.
On-farm demonstration at Biggar, SK shows the value and flexibility of ESN Smart Nitrogen in dryland CWRS production. Both the ESN and ESN-blend application out-yielded the conventional urea application. The figure below shows yield and profit gains observed in this demonstration.
Single shoot ESN application increased yield 8 bu/acre.
At $5.00/bu for wheat, profit increase from ESN blend or ESN is $23 to $32/ acre more than straight urea application.
Profit from ESN is even greater with increased wheat prices.
Profit increase does not include 0.6% increase in grain protein with ESN.
