ESN’s flexibility and benefit in blends with urea improves yield and lowers cost per acre of use.
In this on-farm replicated field study (Westlock, AB), ESN was used in 50:50 blends with urea at two application rates and all treatments were pre-seed band applied. At both rates of application, yield was highest when ESN was included as part of the blend.
It required 130 lb N/ac of urea – N, to produce a similar yield as attained by using 90 lb N/ac as a 50:50 blend. The ESN:urea blend applied at 90 lb N/ ac produced a similar yield to that of the 130 lb N/acre ESN:urea-nitrogen (N).
This indicates the enhanced efficiency and gain in N use efficiency through the use of ESN – N. Having a percentage of the total N as ESN, protects against in season N loss potential, and precludes the need to apply “extra N” to offset potential N loss.
ESN – N can be used as a percentage of total N requirements to guard against N loss.
