ESN: A Proud Partner in Sustainable Crop Production

Support programs in place for growers

Growers know the value of feeding their crop when it needs it most. The 4R Nutrient Management strategy precisely quantifies the factors that make the investment in nitrogen efficient and sustainable: the Right Source, Right Rate, Right Time, and Right Place.

The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) under the U.S. Department of Agriculture provides a number of conservation programs to encourage the use of nutrient Best Management Practices (BMPs). “As a general rule, qualifying BMPs should provide a benefit to both productivity and the environment; and both are addressed by ESN Smart Nitrogen” said Dr. Karl Wyant, Director of Agronomy, Nutrien.

ESN’s polymer coating protects granules from nitrogen loss pathways including leaching, denitrification and volatilization, protecting water resources, soil health and the environment.

For growers there are two programs available through the NRCS. See the video, Government Incentives and Enhanced Efficiency Fertilizers.for more information.

The Environmental Quality Incentive Program (EQIP) Is a program that helps farmers, ranchers and forest landowners integrate conservation into working lands.  Producers implement practices and activities in their conservation plan that can lead to cleaner water and air, healthier soil and better wildlife habitat, all while improving their agricultural operations.

The Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP) helps growers build on their existing conservation efforts while strengthening their operation, including practices that protect surface and ground water and soil health. Benefits include enhanced resiliency to weather and market volatility; decreased need for agriculture inputs; and improved wildlife habitat conditions.
